In the 'terroir' of Meursault, some of the vineyards classified as appellation 'Village' , are located on marl soils identical to those of the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (only the topography and elevation are different). These high quality vineyards deserve to be vinified separately. This is the case of the terroir of Les Clous, whose name apparently comes from a deformation of the word 'Clos'. Bouchard Père et Fils owns 8.64 hectares here out of the 18.4 hectare appellation i.e. almost half the total area.
