Grillo is an ancient autochthonous Sicilian grape variety, but it also means clove, believed to bring good luck. The name sur sur meaning cricket comes from the classical Arabic language once spoken in Sicily.
The sound of spring, together with its scents and colours, inspired the wine's label. It shows Gabriela (founder of Donnafugata, along with her husband Giacomo) as a girl in flight, running barefoot through the flowers and fresh grass, following the singing of the crickets, which sounds sweet in her ears like a thousand "SurSur... ".
The grapes are picked in August or at the latest in the first week of September. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature /14-16°C/. The wine is aged in tanks for two months and then a minimum of three more months in bottle.
Sparkling straw yellow colour. On the nose, the wine presents a fresh bouquet with fascinating notes of white fruits /peach and melon/ combined with wild flowers and mint. The fruity notes are also present in the taste, which is fresh with a smooth finish.
