Love Chardonnay? It's time to expand your tasting library.
We’ve curated a selection of lesser-known wines that you might not reach for as often—but if Chardonnay is your go-to variety, with its typically neutral aromatic profile, notes of apple, peach, and apricot, generous body, juicy texture, and medium to high acidity, chances are you’ll also enjoy wines made from Viognier, Marsanne, Roussanne, Chenin Blanc, and Aligoté—and why not explore the native Bulgarian variety Dimyat as well?
For those who appreciate the richer, more opulent side of Chardonnay, we particularly recommend giving Viognier a try. While naturally lower in acidity, Viognier wines are intensely aromatic and fruit-driven, offering lush stone fruit notes like peach and apricot, along with hints of honey and sweet spices. Viognier can be aged on the lees to preserve its freshness and add texture, or matured in oak barrels to enhance its complexity and depth.
