Barolo is a red wine produced in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. It is made from Nebbiolo and is often described as one of the greatest Italian wines. And even the "King of Italian Wine"!
Barolo is known for its complexity, firm texture and ability to improve with age. The wine must be aged for at least 36 months after harvest and before release, of which at least 18 months must be in oak. Where the ageing period is at least five years before marketing, the wine may be bottled as 'rieserva'.
Barolo 'Serralunga' is born as a blend of different vineyards from the Serralunga region. The idea is that the different types of soil contribute to a more complex flavour and on the other hand it can be drunk younger. The grapes that Paolo Manzone includes in the 'blend' come from the south-western part of the Meriame parcel plus a few other parcels from the area.
This is a rich wine, with hints of orange peel and fruit on the nose. On the palate, you'll experience the typical tannins of the chalky soils of Serralunga, which in this case are quite light, and the freshness and memorable finish make this Barolo a fantastic wine! Which you can appreciate now, but even better to keep in time.
