Villa Melnik Winery is a family-owned company. It has about 30 hectares of vineyards and a newly built modern winery in one of the most celebrated wine-making regions of Bulgaria: The Melnik Region.
They grow local and foreign varieties: from the reds – Broad-leaved Melnik Vine, Early Melnik Vine (Melnik 55), Mavrud, Ruen, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Pinot Noir, Sangiovese; from the whites – the local varieties Keratsuda, Sandanski Misket, and the classics – Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier.
The winery is situated on a picturesque hill among the vineyards. The state-of-the-art facilities meet all the requirements of modern winemaking and enable a gravity-fed wine-making process. The tunnels carved into the sandstone hill naturally provide a constant temperature, perfect for storing and aging the wines. The winery is open for visits to both expert connoisseurs and beginner wine enthusiasts.
The team’s efforts are concentrated on creating short series of high-quality wines that will reinstate the legendary fame of the Melnik wine. They earned 4 gold and 2 bronze medals at the International Wine Contest Vinaria in 2011 and 2012, as well as a gold medal for their wine AplauZ - Melnik 55 and a silver medal for the white blend Bergul? – Chardonnay and Viognier аt the First Balkans International Wine Competition in 2012.
The winery has a newly-formed team, but its members have rich experience in vine growing and wine production. Every year, their workers cross-train at several vineyards in Bordeaux, France in order to improve their skills and learn best practices. The head winemaker is Rumyana . She has a degree in enology and long experience withing different wineries and wine regions.
Villa Melnik Winery sells its wines under the following labels: “AplauZ” and “Bergule” for its high-end wines; “Villa Melnik – Family Tradition” and “Melenik” for its standard range. You can also find our wines packaged in Bag in Box from 3 or 5 liters.

The grapes were picked three weeks after the grapes for dry wines and left to further dry on racks in an airy place far from direct sunlight in order to additionally concentrate the sugars and aromas. 80g residual grape sugar/liter. No added sugar or sweetener!
The wine was bottled after TWO YEARS AGING IN OAK BARRELS.
Deep purple color with signs of aging. The nose is complex and deep with candied fruit, caramel, fig preserve, nuts, walnut oil, orange peel, Christmas spices, nutmeg, Excellent balance between sweetness and acidity. The finish is long and intense.
